You're alone, in a small, insulated room. The only connection to the outside world is through the large headset you are wearing. You speak directly into the microphone in front of you, with your crisp voice almost startling you as you hear your voice for the first time through the headset. This is the beginning of a professional recording session. At motionpost, we are pleased to have the talents of Bruno Strapko, one of the best audio engineers in the Chicago area, to record, edit, and add finishing touches to our projects. We talked with Bruno about the recently completed audiobook, "The Chicago Killer: The Hunt For Serial Killer John Wayne Gacy." Joe Kozenczak, the lead investigator who broke the Gacy case, authored the book with his wife Karen. How long does it take to record an audio book? This book is about 240 pages long, and that took several sessions of...

We like to think of ourselves as problem solvers when clients come to us with a video challenge. Such was the case with a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) that was brought to us by Jasculca Terman PR. This important PSA is currently being used as a part of an educational curriculum and state bill campaign to prevent child sexual abuse. The challenge was to match the specific and high-end technical look of the previously shot on-camera narration of actress, Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) and do it all for free. We connected with motionpost friend, director of photography and DePaul faculty, Pete Biagi. DePaul donated their Alexa camera and their stage at Cinespace Chicago. DP Pete Biagi and our lighting crew, all created a seamless look that we edited together and produced a PSA we are proud of. We at motionpost are honored to be a part of such an important tool of helping...

At Motion Post, we wear many hats. One day we are producers, another day, directors. And yet another day, we are editors. For some projects, we may wear all three hats. For a unique project brought to us by Agency Galatea, a Chicago modeling and talent agency, we put on our editor's hat. We were asked to create a profile video out of the outrageously gorgeous footage shot by cameraman, Rick Thomas and directed by Joe Lyons. Since we both were interested in the project, we decided to create our own versions. And this is where it gets even more interesting. Two considerably different pieces from two editors. We like to pride ourselves in offering a range of talent and views on projects, and this certainly proves that.  ...

Selfies -- we’ve all seen people taking them. We’ve most likely have been included in them. Remembering and sharing the moment, the place, and whom we are with is why we take these photos.  That’s exactly the idea we had in mind when writing up the treatment for a :30 spot for Chicago’s Italian restaurant, Bella Luna.   The challenge of shooting in a restaurant is having to shut it down while filming. And to fill a restaurant with talent potentially can get expensive. So we gave the client some creative options. Fill the place with friends. Serve them your delicious food and drinks while filming them enjoying the restaurant. We kept the shooting to a minimum, as not to interrupt other diners. It was a quick timetable that not only produced an evening of fun, but a polished, local commercial with a national spot look. Picture perfect.   ...

"We don't have a large budget for these spots." How many times have these words been spoken to directors and production houses -- it's almost a given during a sluggish economy. But Motion Post is always up for the challenge. With a tight script from the client, we shot and edited four spots; two :15's and two :30's. The expertise of our lighting, shooting, and editing made for an efficient collaboration with the client. A big agency look, with a boutique budget and approach. These Strom & Associates commercials are a testament to Motion Post's readiness to work along side the client producing timeless, finished spots....
