The arts education I received in school is an integral part of who I am. Without an introduction to art in grade school, the well rounded arts programs at my public high school, and dedicated and knowledgeable fine art and theater teachers, I may never have found my skills with moving pictures and I would not be where I am today.

Most videos posted to social media and YouTube are created in hopes of “going viral.” The term has become a cliche’, but still the producer’s goal is to capture the imagination of a few people enough that they pass it on and the audience grows because the message is effective. More often, we make videos aimed at a narrower audience; important to a few but not expected to be seen by many. Occasionally however, one of our messages takes on a life of it’s own.

Chicago Public School Principals were recently invited to view this video plea to keep the Arts in their budgets. Commissioned by a Chicago advocacy group, Ingenuity, motionpost provided a creative piece to discuss how important the arts are in schools. Nearly 80,000 views on their Facebook page has brought attention and support for keeping the money for art in school budgets.  A one minute video can change the direction a school will take, and what path their students may follow.
